As part of the “Fashion Law & Business Studios” program at Creative Law Studios, Mariya Ortynska, patent and trademark attorney, attorney, and managing partner of IPStyle, acted as a lecturer at the module on patenting technology and design in fashion.
The lecture covered the key aspects and features of patenting inventions, utility models, industrial designs at the national and international levels, Ukrainian and foreign examples of protection of fabrics, details of clothes, shoes, designs of bags, accessories.
Mariya paid special attention to the lecture to potential disputes that arise between designers, fashion houses (both offline and online), and gave recommendations on how to determine the violation of patent rights in the fashion industry.
Mariya also told about the features of legal protection of design in 2020. And together with the audience, she suggested what the future could be for technologies in the fashion industry, including virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, sustainable fashion, upcycling.
At her lecture, Maria managed to bust the myths that:
- construction, device cannot be protected;
- in terms of technology, nothing new can be invented in fashion;
- a small company that is not yet known to the designer will not be able to protect its design and technologies.
