Every year, in late May, International Trademark Association (INTA) holds meeting for trademark experts where attendees have chance to discuss latest trends and issues of the industry and also to meet TM specialists from all over the world.
This year’s one of the most interesting topics was digitalization. There are a lot of various aspects of trademark protection in digital era. 4D printing is already more reality than fantasy. Moreover, discussions extended to designs, copyright and geographical indications as well. For Ukraine geographical indications is very topical because according to EU-Ukraine Association Agreement we have to get rid of such names as “cognac” and “champagne”.
After coming back, Mariya Ortynska also shared with us interesting tendencies in IP business development. There were firms that focused on preparing and filing the trademark documents only, so-called “filers”. Nowadays, they can not fully satisfy clients’ needs and lose popularity. However, IP software companies are growing rapidly. Of course, no software can act as analyst, patent and trademark attorney and a lawyer at the same time but technologies develop very fast.
